Blood Type Diet

is based upon the premise that as human blood types are different so should their diets be different.  A naturopathic  physician, Peter D’Adamo  wrote a book, Eat Right for Your Type outlines what foods should be eaten based on your blood type.  His book discusses the core blood types A, B, O and AB are a part of the humans system, what they put in it should correspond with their blood type.

D’Adamo’s theory is based on work done by an immunochemist and blood type anthropologist, William C. Boyd who published his works in 1950.  His theories were based on the distribution of blood groups, so D’Adamo has taken it step further to analyze where people lived and what they ate to be the fountain of his blood type diet. With the Blood Type Diet, D’Adamo rationalizes all of this is based on in the beginning there were 13 geographic distinct races within slightly different frequency distributions of blood group genes.  From this, D’Adamo groups those thirteen races together by ABO blood group, also referred to blood type, each type has unique dietary recommendations.  The following comparisons are believed by D’Adamo:

  • Blood group O – this group is referred to as “the hunter“.  This is the earliest human blood group.  The diet recommends that this blood group eat a higher protein diet. D’Adamo bases this on the belief that Type O was the first blood type, originating 30,000 years ago.
  • Blood group A – this group is called “the cultivator”. This group is said to be a more recently evolved blood type, considered more of an agriculture group from some 20,000 years ago.  The diet recommends that individuals of blood group A eat a diet more of a vegetarian diet and eliminate red meat.
  • Blood group B – this group is called “the nomad”. This group is considered to have a strong immune system and a tolerating digestive system.  The blood type diet claims that they can do very well with dairy products including cultured dairy products.  This blood type is believed to appear 10,000 years ago.
  • Blood group AB – this group is called “the enigma“.  It is also considered the most recently evolved type, arriving less than 1,000 years ago.  As far as the diet for this type is somewhere in-between blood types A and B.

This is a very logical, but does it really work?  There are many critics that don’t believe any of what he has put together because there is no scientific evidence of what D’Adamo claims, can be proven.  There are also claims that there is a clinical trial that has taken place or is ongoing but no results have been published. So what is this Blood Type Diet exactly?  It is a diet that explains what you should and should not eat based on your blood type.  By doing this you will ultimately have a healthier life.  There are many people that are following this diet and believe that there really is something to it. Too many people have tried unproven diets based on losing weight fast or for health needs and some have had success.  That is not to say that the Blood Type Diet should be frowned upon.  There will be more to follow since more and more people are looking into this diet and will be expecting results from studies done.

there are many factors to consider when it it comes to the diet.  Type Os enjoy an intense workout and absolutely love meat, which is totally different then their counterparts.  Another thing that differs is that they have a higher amount of stomach acid that allows them to digest and metabolize meat.

For Type Os being able to process meats better, it is still preferred to ingest organic products and the leaner the better.  It is also okay for Type Os to poultry, and fish. What Type Os have an issue with is dairy products and grains.

If the Type O is looking for loss they would need to restrict breads, grains, beans and legumes.  These are contribute to weight gain in the Type O diet.  Another issue with Type Os is gluten.  It has not been until recently that people have even heard about gluten unless they had a problem with it.  Part of the Blood Type Diet O Food List should avoid whole wheat everything and wheat germ.

By having ingesting whole wheat products and wheat germ there is an interference with their metabolism which causes an interference with how insulin is processed within the body.  Everything starts to shut down interfering with Type Os metabolism.  A slow metabolism is a factor in gaining weight, along with legumes and some beans such as kidney beans.  Anything containing lectins, leave Type Os searching for energy.  Not good for Type Os since they thrive on exercise.  Since these beans and legumes contribute to weight gain, they should be avoided if you are looking to lose weight.

Another issue with Type Os is they have a lower level thyroid which causes an overall stability problem  This will cause the thyroid to not function properly resulting in the metabolism to slow down resulting in not being able to lose weight or weight gain.  So there are some foods to avoid to keep your thyroid healthy such as brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and mustard greens.  Notice anything about the list?  Yes, they are all gassy vegetables.

For your Blood Type Diet O Food List to increase your thyroids function you should include iodized salt, seafood and kelp.  Type Os should also increase their vegetables that are high in vitamin K.  This also helps the clotting factor which happens to be weak in Type Os.

Another thing to consider is since Type Os have a high acidity stomach, they should eat alkaline fruits  as plums and berries.

Type Os should seriously avoid everything dairy – their systems are not able to properly digest them.  Certain ancestral groups should avoid dairy as well, if  somewhere in your blood line there is someone of African ancestry then anything dairy, as well as eggs, should be omitted completely.

For those people that are Type O – the O is for oldest blood line in humanity.  For Type O according to D’Adamo the most you will get from what you eat is to focus on on poultry meat and fish which is what the Type Os system thrives on.  Their digestive tract seems to have some sort of flash backs of their ancestry enabling them to benefit from these foods. Type Os also love to exercise which contributes to them being able to burn calories faster.  Type Os need to avoid breads, grains and legumes to have a more digestive tract.

Now for the Type As, short for “for agrarian” have a system more suited for a  vegetarian type diet.  Since their ancestry is more linked to being farmers living off the land, they tend to do better with a higher level of vegetables, grains, and soy products  preferably mostly organic.  Also with the Type As, they are not big on rigorous exercise, on the contrary, something a lot more subtle that involves the mind and body such as yoga.

There is the nomadic blood Type B that has a system with great digestibility enabling them to process just about everything.  They can also benefit and enjoy produce, low fat dairy, produce and meat, but should stay clear of corn, wheat and lentils.  With Type Bs exercise should be moderate.

The most “modern” blood type is Type AB which has an extremely sensitive digestive tract.  At all cost they should avoid chicken, beef, and pork.  They can have and enjoy tofu, produce, seafood, and dairy without issue.  For Type AB, their fitness should be more focused on calming exercises.

For the Blood Type Diet Plan, there are noticeable differences that may be useful to you when you are considering your overall health and what type of diet plan to consider.  Amongst the diet plans that are out there that focus restrictions, this diet allows you to eat, but consider adding and subtracting foods that you already eat.
